tropical beer notes #2

Royal Stout – Malaysia – 8%

Easygoing, chocolatey, ‘same same’, sweet – you can feel the alcohol warmth. The label reminds me of a certain omnipresent chocolate brand, and coming in at a huge 8% it did reduce your humble correspondent to something of a cadbury.

Beers tend to fit into a ‘mega brand lager’/’very strong’ division up here. Perhaps with the cost of booze being quite high for the locals it’s temping to hop into a special brew or bear beer and let all your troubles quickly/far too quickly slip away. 12/20

You two are clearly living the dream!

Keep the geography of beer coming – it will distract me from what passes for beer in Los Angeles…

    Dudes,

saw Tony Allen play last night at the Music Box. He was Fela Kuti’s drummer. One of the best gigs I’ve ever seen. Afrobeat setting the night on fire. I just needed to share it with you, Linds!

heya benny – somehow we managed to miss some some of our all time favs on very rare visit to perthland. Ryan Adams, Ani, My Moring Jacket, The Tigers and of course Neil. Bummer but we’ll just have to settle for tropical paradise.
Heard a great comment bout seventies music a while back – that there are 3 beats: Kuti’s Afrobeat, James Brown’s funky drummer and Dinger’s Krautrock. Perhaps the most demanding of all would have been playing with Africa 70…. anyhow sounds brilliant
